Last night/ early this morning I attended a drag show at TC’s Bar here in Houston. I have alot of friends in the gay community so I often find myself at drag shows and pageants. From just observing these girls, I’ve learned more about myself and how to better myself as well. Strange? I don’t think so. LOL

Five Things I Learned From Drag Queens
1.Makeup. At every drag show I attended the queens always have fierce makeup! At one show I attended a while ago, one of them taught me how to put on eyeliner! Can you believe it? I was 18 without knowing how to draw on my own eye! Drag queens are pros at highlighting and contouring and always end up with a super cool look. I not that good at applying makeup, but I love to look at theirs and try to copy what they did–in a more toned down way of course.
2. Confidence. There are always people making fun of these girls. And you know what they keep going and doing exactly what makes them happy. These girls get on stage in tight revealing outfits and perform!  I’ve struggled so much with being confident in myself and comfortable with my abilities, but watching these girls make me feel empowered to believe in myself even more.I still have some confidence issues, but I’m so much better now. That’s why I’m always singing now–even though my friends and family beg me not too! Confidence baby!
3. Alter-Egos. Some of these drag queens are men in real life or they have professional jobs where they probably wouldn’t be accepted. They come to these shows and pageants and turn on their inner diva and work! Since, I by nature am a shy person, I definitely have alter egos as well. Taylor, is my normal, shy, nerdy self. Brione is my ghetto, don’t mess with me, I’ll cut you self! Black Barbie is my fun, outgoing, crazy self. And Sparkle–who comes out when I’m in dance class. I pretty much operate in the Taylor and Black Barbie realm, which is why some people don’t believe me when I say I’m shy! I just turn on which ever part of me is needed!
4. Humor. I naturally am a funny person. I mean people laugh at my jokes ( and at me) all the time. Seeing these girls make jokes and be funny only help me to realize that I should embrace my sense of humor! You can often find me telling corny knock-knock jokes and bursting into fits of laughter.
5.Grandeur.  I have truly learned to GO BIG OR GO HOME! These girls do everything over the top and I have learned to apply that principle to some aspects of my daily life.
