You have probably seen a lot of post about NACE -The National Association of Catering and Events (Formerly National Association of Catering Executives), and that’s because I’m a very active member of the UH Student Chapter and the Houston Chapter.
On Wednesday, we had our monthly meeting at the House of Blues. I had never been there before…it was very nice!
In true NACE fashion, our meetings are always decorated to the tee, showcasing hot new trends in the catering and event industry.
This month we had brown bag lunches!
What a neat idea to use for corporate events or board meetings!!
These weren’t just any old brown bag lunches though! We had chicken pasta salad, candy apples, toast, red bull, and of course wine!
Since I’m not 21 and I’m such a good person, I didn’t partake in the alcohol consumption, but I will be re-gifting these mini bottles to some of my lush friends who are of age! LOL
And since this is a professional association we do have professional development! LOL This month Neen James was our speaker. She is a productivity expert and native Australian!
She spoke to us on how we can be more productive. I’m all about productivity, so I took notes! Here are some of the things I learned:
-Schedule time to plan, allocate time ea for tomorrow.
-Eliminate VDPs–Very Draining People
-No one pays attention to words like ASAP, Urgent, and FYI anymore
-You don’t have time to do everything…you only have time to do what matters!
-Complete task in 15 minute increments–that includes checking email!
-Connect with old friends and family–they are the ones who really matter.
-Use talk times (In the 15 minutes we have left in this meeting…)
-Start your meetings at weird times like 12:10 or 1:17
-Stilettos makes the world a better place!
-Be your fabulous authentic self every day!

I love networking with my NACE peeps! We have such a great time and we are always up to date on whats new in the event planning and catering industry! My NACE family kind of reminds of the blogging community, such fun and vibrant people…who you will always have a good time with! What professional organizations are you in?
