Brides Against Breast Cancer Comes To Houston!

Brides Against Breast Cancer

Brides Against Breast Cancer™ is an organization that uses the uses the money it raises from selling donated wedding gowns at discounted prices to fund programs and services that are free for cancer patients and thier families. Brides Against Breast Cancer (BABC)holds about 70 shows a year, and thids past Saturday, the stopped through Houston, and set up shop at the Westchase Marriot.

While I was there I was able to talk to the lady in charge, Amy Paulishak, who serves as the VP of Business Development for BABC.
She was super busy, but she was very nice and made time to speak with me.

Me: How long has Brides Against Breast Cancer been in operation? Is this a volunteer organization?

Amy: Brides Aginst Breast Cancer has been around for 14 years. We have seven staff members, which help us to produce the 70 shows a year that we have. However, our orgnization is very volunteer heavy.

Me: How many brides do you get to come out in each city?

Amy: We usually have about 200 brides register for each show. But its different in every city.

Me:What kind of dresses are you  getting in the most? What are the price ranges?

Amy: Our most popular style of gowns are the mermaid and lace style dresses, similar to the Royal Wedding. We have dresses from sizes 0-30, and the range from $99 to $3500. The average gown we have is around $500. We have a couture gown on the floor that retailed for almost $20,000, but we are able to sell it here for $3500. We also have a lay-a-way program for brides who need extra time to pay for thier dress, you can have up to 12 months to pay it off.

Me: What kind of donations do you accept?

Amy: We accept most wedding and formal gowns, that can be used for  a wedding. We also accept jewelry, tiaras, shoes, veils, and gloves.

Me: What is the Pink Envelope Project?
Amy: The Pink Envelope Project is creative way to raise funds. If women have bridal showers or other celebrations, you can get a pink envelope kit, and have pink envelopes at your event. You can then have your guest make personal doantions.

As a wedding planner and as a woman, I fully support the mission of this organization, and would love to continue to see it grow, and help more women along the way.
