Chile, why did I look up today and it’s August 5th! Not only is it my moms birthday( Happy Birthday Mommy!!!) it’s a new month–August to be exact! August is a sign that summer is coming to a close and school will back in session soon. I’m entering my senior year of college this year and if there is one thing I’ve learned in the past few years it’s that college is expensive. Even with scholarships, grants, and those stupid student loans, college is still expensive!
My freshmen year of college I had a textbook and supplies scholarship, it was kind of like a store credit; I was supposed to just walk in there choose what I needed and leave. It seemed pretty awesome! So I went in there to pick up my books and I was shocked!! $250 for an algebra book (technically it wasn’t even a book, just hole punched papers that I was supposed to put into a binder), $89 for a Floral Design Book, $100 for an Advanced Literature Book, $120 for some science book, an additional $75 for the lab kit, and my history class required 3 books totaling close to $200…it was outrageous! As I was adding the totals up I was getting kind of discouraged that my $750 scholarship wouldn’t be enough. Next to one of my books, I saw a little sticker that said “RENT ME”, naturally being the bargainista that I am, I automatically inquired about rental. The sales person explained it to me and I was like umm…yeah this will work! I was able to rent all my textbooks…except the algebra book for under $450 (so the rest of my scholarship was refunded to my student account SCORE!)
Three years later , I’m no longer at Sam Houston State , so my textbook scholarship is no more. I’m at the University of Houston(Go Coogs)…but I’m still renting textbooks! I’ve learned that renting textbooks directly from your book store isn’t necessarily the cheapest option. Enter, Campus Book Rentals! Campus Book Rentals offers the textbooks you need at 40-90% off bookstore prices. When you rent with them, they will ship the books directly to your home or dorm for free and when it’s time to return them you don’t pay a dime…you just print out the shipping label and send them back! Unlike other online textbook rental sites, Campus Book Rental allows you to choose the dates you need your textbooks, which is great if you are taking mini-mesters or are on the quarter system.
What I think is super neat, is the buy back program. You know how at the end of the semester, you sell your textbooks back to the bookstore for literally pennies on the dollar? Well, with Campus Book Rental, you can rent textbooks you own to other students and make 2-4 times as much as you would at traditional buybacks on campus.
If you aren’t fully convinced that you should rent from Campus Book Rentals, maybe knowing that with every textbook rented, Campus Book Rental makes a donation to Operation Smile, an international charity that helps children born with cleft lips or cleft palates. So you renting textbooks can help change someone’s life! Got your class schedule for fall? What are you waiting for? Go rent some textbooks!

Girl, renting was all I did in college. UNLESS it was a book I felt that I would need to refer back to in my later years.

Girl yes! Renting is all I do, unless the book is available for renting.
Renting books was essential my last semester in school. It saved so much money. Thanks for sharing.

No prob! I know it’s saved me a ton of money too!
I wish they had this option when I was in school – I cringe when I think of how much money I spent on books and they ended up in the garbage.
I love this program – I’ve already told my cousin about it, and he said he’d check it out!

I try to spread the word about this to others…some of my friends still don’t event know they have this option.
Wish this had been an option when I was in school!!
