baggage claim

Honestly, the only reason I went to the movies to see Baggage Claim because Trey Songz sexy self was in it. (Y’all know I’m a big fan–#TreysAngels for life.) The movie actually turned out to be really good!  I  love a good romantic comedy and although this movie was pretty predictable and fluffed up with a celebrity cast, I found myself tearing up and laughing hysterically throughout. As usual, I find life lessons in pop culture and this movie was no different. I actually learned  things that can be applied to relationships and life in general.

Trey Songz Baggage Claim

1. Ugly things come in pretty packages. Trey Songz played the super sexy Damon Diesel in the movie. He was so sexy…especially in his bathtub scene! I nearly fainted when he first came on the screen. But despite, his undeniable fineness, his life was not together! It looked like he had everything, but really he didn’t have anything. He was living with a woman, using her money, and just living the superstar life on the record labels’ dime. Be sure not to let glitz and glamour fool you…it just might be fools gold.

2. Picky is single, but do you want to be just anybody’s or somebody’s? I’m not going to pretend like I don’t have a Word Document titled, “Characteristics of My Perfect Husband” saved on my computer. Lol However, there is a fine line between too picky and  settling for someone just to have a partner. Pick a few traits that you really want to see in your future mate (on my Word Doc, these are highlighted and noted “non-negotiable” in the footnotes) and let those be the deciding factors on whether or not you want to pursue a relationship with that person or not. Please don’t be that girl that settles for anyone with a pulse, just because you don’t want to be alone. Would you rather be in a relationship with just any ole body or somebody really special?

3. You don’t need a man to define you. You are your own person. Not Johnny’s girlfriend or Tyrone’s wife. Don’t base your identity on your relationship status. You are so much more.

4.Don’t be too available. Chile, Montana was flying all over the country to meet these men, going on dates as soon as she touched down. Don’t be desperate! If someone repeatedly calls you–or even worse, TEXT you, asking you out for later that night, you need to handle that! You are busy and have a schedule and you can’t drop what you are doing at the drop of a hat because his other date cancelled he has issues with reasonable scheduling.

5. Find yourself and date her. Throughout this process, Montana ended up finding herself which was truly the part of the movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. While you are waiting on Mr. Word Doc, get to know yourself and treat her to some things! She deserves it! I went to see this movie, after I got out of my night class at 10pm. I went alone and had the best time! Yes, there was a couple in there as well, but nobody was worried about them!

So this movie was really good! I hope I didn’t spoil too much of it.  If you haven’t seen it, go see it, alone or with a gal pal (See #5) and let me know what you think.

Have you seen this movie? What did you learn?
