We are discussing periods once more on the blog. Lol I hope you aren’t one of those people who get all uncomfortable when discussing monthly menstratuation..I’m not. In fact, I’m so open about periods that I wanted to give you some tips on making your period suck less.  I’ve said this before, I have a good period. She comes when she’s supposed to and sometimes she leaves early. She doesn’t give me cramps or headaches, just a constant craving for glazed breakfast pastries and a little bloating. But this wasn’t always the case, when I first got my period (and I got it young, 10 years old!!) I was crampy, irritable, and you could tell just by looking at me that I had a not so friendly guest visiting for a bit. Here are some of my tips to make your period suck less.

1. ExerciseI’ve told a few of my friends that crunches help with cramps and I got cussed out. Lol Well that works for me, but it may not work for others. Cardio excercise helps to relieve minor cramps, headaches and the overall “bad” feeling you get. I recommend doing something fun like a Zumba or Hip-Hop dance class because it’s so fun it generally takes your mind off of your period. You will feel pretty gross after you work out, but you will feel renewed after a shower!

2.  Eat. Whatever you want! I don’t know about you ,but when I’m on my period I don’t want a salad or an apple. I just want  to eat french fries, donuts and Sour Patch Kids all day. If you eat healthy most of the time it won’t kill you to indulge in a few cravings ( and then exercise) later on.  Whatever you do…EAT!

3. Protect yourself. Wearing the proper sanitary products will make you feel more secure in leading  a normal day. I wrote about how using UbyKotex products saved my trip to New York before and I stand by the effectiveness of their products. I personally use the U by Kotex liners as well as the U by Kotex Cleanwater Pads. The pads offer flexibility and they don’t bunch up in your underwear. (Annoying) They come in several different absorbency levels too. All the products  have fun colored and discrete packaging that doesn’t scream “period”, just by looking at it. Using U by Kotex is a sure way to be less stressed about period related accidents. They have something for everyone.

4. Dress cute. I know when your are feeling your absolute worst you want to throw on anything that is clean. As a firm believer in power dressing, I know that when you dress better, you feel better. If you get up in the morning and get yourself together (although it make take way more effort than normal) you will feel better throughout the day. Lazy lounge clothes make you feel lazy and gloomy all day. I used to only wear pants when on my period, but now with the protection of U by Kotex, I feel comfortable throwing on a cute (loose dress) and some comfortable wedge heels.

Your period doesn’t have to be a horrible time. Your attitude is a big part of how you feel during this crazy time. Using these tips can help your period suck less…although it may still suck a little. 😉

  1. I love it! I am too a long time user of Kotex products, I love the thin pads with the wings. They’re comfortable and easy to tote around. Thanks for this, it was very helpful!

  2. I love this! I actually just bought those tampons the other day haha! I totally agree that you should allow yourself to eat whatever you want when you’re on your period! Yeah, yeah, it may not be the most healthy, but honestly, periods suck. If eating that one doughnut makes your period suck less, EAT THAT DOUGHNUT!

  3. Great advice! I always try to chill and remember to eat during my period. I never really want have an appetite during the first part, so that’s a major do for me.

  4. Great post!
I actually have a Mirena and I was one of the lucky ones to NO LONGER HAVE A PERIOD (yay me) it’s been over 5 years. However, my daughter recently joined the women’s club, and she is so nice and calm and relaxed during her period (which is the opposite of her on a regular basis).
