Sparkle-Posh-Pup-In-Bed

To some people, I’m a crazy person obsessed with a dog. To others, I’m an over loving dog parent.  What do I think I am? Thankful. Yes, thankful. Thankful to have a dog as special as my Sparkle is in my life. I received Sparkle as a graduation present from my parents, they thought a dog would settle me and get me back on the adult responsibility path after four years of college freedom.  My mom had “adopted” her from a lady who had just given birth to twins and couldn’t care for both a puppy and two little ones Sparkle was a cute little Maltese who couldn’t even walk up the stairs when we got her. She was also eating a horrible dog food brand. Her hair needed love and conditioning. But, she was so perfect!  She has grown up now, running up the stairs literally in five seconds, chowing down on the best dog food my coins can buy and going to the groomer so much that she has a standing appointment.Dog playing in makeup watermark

Like I said, Sparkle is special. She has so much energy. So much love. Last year was one of the most difficult times in my life. I was sad–extremely sad, to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed and get dressed. (Transitions seem to bring out the worst in people.) I didn’t want to leave my house, let alone my bed, but there was always a bright little light–or rather ball of fur who could make me get out of bed, literally biting and pulling my fingers to take her to the restroom. When I wasn’t going to eat, her face reminded me that she was hungry and she wasn’t going to wait. When she ate my lipstick and my expensive shoes, she reminded me that I needed to go ahead and clean up. Throughout all of my darkness, there she was there, lighting my way.

That’s the thing about dogs, they have a way of making dark days brighter. Even when they are tearing up your stuff and breaking potty training rules, you can’t help but love them. Although Sparkle wasn’t adopted from a shelter, adopted shelter dogs make wonderful pets, and make great additions to any family. During the month of October PEDIGREE® will donate a bowl of food to a dog in need. Since Sparkle helps me with her positive energy and light, I want to make sure she has the best stuff, including food so that she is able to be with me as long as possible. Even though Sparkle is a small breed dog, she has three cousins and one foster fur-iend that she shares food with so, thePEDIGREE® Adult Dry Dog Food (55 pound) works out best for keeping all of the doggies healthy, happy and full. So by feeding your own pup (or pups) you will also help out those lovely pups at the shelter. Make sure to get to Sam’s Club and purchase the biggest bag of dog food you can afford. Sam’s Club has great deals on dog food, especially if you are feeding more than one.

Also to celebrate pet month, you can upload a picture of you and your dog to Instagram or Twitter and use the hashtag #LaterShelter for a chance to be featured on SamsClub.com. There will also be a bowl of  PEDIGREE® brand food donated with every upload! So post a ton of cute pictures of your dog!
