Last weekend I attended the first ever Houston Blogger Symposium. It’s a new blogger conference, organized by Megan of Greetings From Texas. I was initially like number gazillion on the waiting list, but then I got an that spot opened up-I was so excited! I had nothing to wear so I headed to Ross (it was the only store opened after work and school at 9pm). I got this dress for seven bucks! I paired it with an orange belt and my favorite sassy shoes. Who says that you have to match?
The event was held in the Monarch Room of the super classy Hotel Zaza. We were served brunch and of course bubbly. Me being high maintenance and probably the only person not 21, had to stalk the servers to bring me some orange juice. LOL
After munching, we started off with a blogger panel. The ladies behind the blogs of Dismount Creative, Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno, Sugarlaws, & The Queso shared lots of info with us about scheduling, consistency, not living life through your blog, dealing with haters, and of course money.
After the advice from the bloggers, we had some ladies (Davina Hirsh, Julianne Agno, and Meg Jones ) who worked for brands and discussesed sponsorship. Good stuff, very good stuff. I was so lost about sponsorship pre-panel and now I feel a little bit better about.
After these great panels we had Lisa O’Neill speak to us about the ins and outs of PR. Sometimes I miss being a PR major.
I really liked the decorations used at the symposium. They were very fun and DIY. And I love how everything was themed with the skyline of Houston, but incorporated the word
“y’all”! You know we don’t just ride horses down here, right, y’all?
This event was a blast-blast! Not only did I learn new information, I met alot of new blogger friends too. I’m sure year two will be even better for the Houston Blogger Symposium! It was a great time indeed!
See y’all later!
