I’m a huge fan of journals. When I see the pretty ones or ones with inspirational quotes on them, I get so excited! There is nothing like a new journal, with all these pages ready to be filled with your words. When I decided to keep a prayer journal I knew that this would be a big step. For some reason when you have a journal when you are writing to God, it’s more serious than when you are just journaling for yourself. There is accountability there. I don’t want to lie to God! My prayer journal has been extremely helpful in my building my relationship with God, especially in this last month that I’ve been fasting. It is a big part of my daily routine and I now carry it with me wherever I go. Here’s why I use a prayer journal (and you should too):
1. I can write anywhere. Since, I carry my prayer journal with me everywhere I go I often write in my journal at work or when I have a free moment at school. This gives me an opportunity to have quiet time with God even when I’m in location where I can’t pray aloud.
2. Some things you just can’t say aloud. Most of the time when I pray, I pray aloud. I literally talk to God. Although God is all-knowing, sometimes when you are praying about some deep stuff you can’t get the words out. My prayer journal allows me to pray about anything and everything, even when it’s hard to say.
3. 1. It serves as reminder of everything God has done for me. I ask God for alot of things. Although, I know that he has truly blessed me and has been so good to me, sometimes I forget how good he has been to me. My prayer journal allows me to go back and re-read things that I asked for or prayed about and remember how God answered those prayers.
I highly suggest using a prayer journal. There is something about filling pages with all your thoughts and concerns that is so cleansing. Most times after writing in my prayer journal I literally feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I made a Pinterest board full of ideas on how to start a prayer journal, how to make a prayer journal, and how to stay motivated to write in it. Hopefully, this will help you as you build a more meaningful prayer life and guide you toward a more intimate relationship with God!

This are really great reasons for having a prayer journal. I am a journal writer at heart but you’re right there is something different about writing to God. I actually never carry my prayer Journal with me but hearing your reasons why I think I may change that really soon. Thanks for the suggestions, great post!
