You know that cute guy who played “Sweetness” on Roll Bounce? Y’all know that’s not his real name! Wesley Jonathan, was in Houston last week promoting the upcoming premiere of his show “Soul Man“. I had the opportunity to interview him. The interview was very short, so I didn’t ask many questions, but I did get to talk to him and learn a little more about him as an individual and as an actor. He is very sweet in person and funny chile!

Me: I always refer to you as “Sweetness”, do people often call you names of characters you played?

Wesley: Yes! All the time. It’s crazy; people always come up to me and say, “I know you but I don’t know where I know you from”. I’m constantly explaining to people what I’ve been in. I’m like trying to guess, maybe you know be from “City Guys” or “What I Like About You”.  And then their like, “Yeah!! That’s where I know you from.”

Me: How was it playing “Sweetness” in Roll Bounce?

Wesley: Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever personified a character like I did Sweetness. During the time of the filming I was really angry. The producers wanted to go with someone who was more well known and not me. I was ready to be taken seriously as an actor and tired of being looked over. I didn’t promote the movie, I didn’t go to the clubs or anything. I just stayed to myself and practiced my lines and stuff. What you saw was someone who was engulfed in that role.

Me: Since, you were on “What I Like About You”, you know Amanda Bynes, what do you think about her recent behaviors?

Wesley: Everyone has been asking me about Amanda!  It’s crazy because when I worked with her she was like one of the good girls. All the other young female actors were in the news and she never was. I always took pride in that when I was on the show. She is actually a really nice person to work with and very professional.

Me: What do you like wearing?

Wesley: I’m not really a name brand person. I’m wearing Dickies right now and a DGK shirt. I wear what I like. Sometimes I wear small designers, but only if I like it. I’m not going to wear something if I’m not feeling it. I’ll help out smaller brands and smaller blogs and stuff, because I’m trying to promote myself too. I’ll wear anything if I like, if you want me to promote it, I just ask that you give me s#!t.

Me: When a woman is wearing an outfit, what makes your head turn?

 There are two different types of head turns. One when you look a mess and one when you look good. I like them in those long song dresses. What are they called? [Maxi Dresses] Yeah! I like those alot! I also like those dresses that makes your booty look big even if you don’t have one. [Those are called skater dresses.]
