Literary Lust: The Vixen Manual

IMG_09991

I think I have said before how much I love books! Well I do. So to continue with varied content, I have started the Literary Love segment. It is summer so I will definitely be reading a lot more than I do when it’s a regular semester. But anyway, back to the book. I follow Karrine Steffans blog and she is always talking about how she is an author, but I never knew of anything outside of Confessions of a Video Vixen. Well, I found one of her other books; The Vixen Manual: How To Find, Seduce, & Keep the Man You Want. Okay, don’t judge, I know that she doesn’t have the cleanest past, but with a title like this I just had to read this book.

This really is a great book! First of all, the book is not full of sex moves to trap men. She actually promotes abstinence and celibacy in the earlier chapters, saying that you should only sleep with someone if you love them and you feel as if they deserve you. In the sex chapter, she does provide a few tips (diagrams included) for making sure your love life is spicy. But that definitely is not the primary focus of the book. It is more of a female empowerment book if anything. In these 50 chapters she covers things that sometimes hinder women from having successful relationships such as low self-esteem , insecurities, settling, goals (or lack of), and dating with children involved.

I really enjoyed the Worth, Pretty vs. Smart, Asset, and Liability chapters, these had the most information that I found relevant for myself. This was a great read and easy too. I like how she had the Vixen Tips, Recaps, and Vixen accented with pink outlines and shapes.  I like all books but pretty books generally fall higher on the list. (lol)

Here are some of my memorable take aways from the book:

1. Know your singular self.

2. A man who hasn’t worked for you will only want to play with you.

3. Be properly prepared for relationships: emotionally, financially, and through education.

4.Be an asset to your partner not a liability

.5.Have a five year plan.

6. Read and exercise frequently.

7. Take proper time pampering yourself. Make sure you are properly groomed and taken care of at all times. If you don’t have the money to get it done, do it yourself.

8. Learn to cook.

9.You can be pretty and smart!

10. Never let a man see you at your very worst.

11. Don’t voice your insecurities.

12. Success and happiness are the best revenge.

Kudos Karrine! This was a great book and I really learned a lot from it. Thanks for positively encouraging women despite what other may say about you. I wish you continued luck with your publishing company and future endeavors.

A Changed Vixen,

  1. I’ve never read any of her books, but you’re making me re-think that! I may have to grab this one. I guess I thought it was all about sex so I overlooked it. Thanks for sharing about this, girlie!
