Turkey Trot Houston 2013: My First 10K

Turkey Trot 2013
It was cold so you couldn’t see my cute Turkey Trot T-shirt! But at least you can see my pink shoes!

Everyone who knows me knows that I hate exercise…I have to trick myself into working out by doing classes like Zumba, Pole Fitness, and Hip-Hop Cardio. I do enjoy boxing and spin classes…but those have just become an acquired taste. If you ever asked me if I’d complete a 10K…I’d probably be like, “you mean running? walking? 6 miles? Chile, please!”, but I did! Thanks to the lovely people at TXU Energy, who again sponsored my participation in the Annual Turkey Trot, I was able to complete a 10K just as I had planned to on my to-do list for the year.

Being that I’m not a person who does 10K’s or running for fun, it was a tough thing to do! Mile one, I was feeling confident and excited about the run, but by mile 4, I was on the phone with my mom, telling her that I was about to get on the van for those who need medical attention. I also texted my friend Paige and told her I was going to stop, they both provided great encouragement and before I knew it, I was finished!! I walked right past the finish line to get some water and an apple…I totally forgot my finish line picture. Ugh!

I’m glad that I could run in this race to support Sheltering Arms–who provides services to seniors in need. There was no way I could quit this race…it would be like quitting on those in need! I felt sooo good throughout the day, I had no reserves about eating alot on Thanksgiving either. I’m so glad to have participated in the Turkey Trot 2013!

  1. Congrats! There is no way I could have ever done that. I’m positive that walking from one room to the next is a workout. I am truly that lazy.
